Devine Selfishness
Divine Selfishness
by Kristen Fox and John McNally
by Kristen Fox and John McNally
One of the big differences between conscious creation, and many other systems of thought is that conscious creators recognize and celebrate their own motivations for the things they choose to do.
We are not here simply to “help others”, we are here to LIVE, and to do whatever expresses our joy. This might INVOLVE helping others, but only if it brings you joy to do so. (Do not get the conceptual focus of expressing joy confused with the infinite number of ways that joy can be expressed in physical reality, or you’re simply adding another rule to how you can express your love and joy.) Self honesty is important in this area, because we often like to adopt a sense of false humility about such things, believing that we are “spiritual” from doing them, rather than just from being who we are.
The concept of divine selfishness is different from the selfishness that you may have grown up believing in. Traditional selfishness is based on a belief in lack: “There is only so much out there and I need to get all I can.” Conversely, the traditional idea of selfLESSness is also centered around a belief in lack: “There is only so much out there, and if each of us was only to take what we ‘needed,’ there would be enough to go around.” If you let go of the belief that there is lack, whether it’s money, love, or natural resources, then traditional concepts of selfishness/selflessness just fall apart.
Being divinely selfish means trusting that following your joy is the best possible thing you can do for not just you, but for everyone else as well. Believing in abundance means that there is more than enough for everyone - always! You understand that each person is creating their own situation, their own life script and trust that no matter how you might be tempted to judge it from the outside, they are getting some sort of value fulfillment from it. Living from a divinely selfish perspective provides a role model for those who are not following their joy, it is the true essence of “teaching someone to be a fisherman” since you are not preaching concepts, but instead living them and modeling that for others to take notice of.
Does this mean you WON’T help others or will only be lost in your own little world? No. Remember not to confuse the idea of being in your joy with it’s expression. In any moment, your joy is actually guiding you to the best possible action to take in any moment. Also remember that joy is a state of being, which can feel like anything from a happy possibility to the action taken with the most integrity. Someone like Mother Theresa could only have done her good works by being in her center and following her own calling and joy, otherwise she most likely would have burnt out a long time ago. In order to fill the glasses of others our own pitcher must first be filled.

The Attitude of Gratitude for Parking Angel Faith Pt.1
Take a look around you. I mean really, stop a moment, become aware of your surroundings. Reflect on the vibrant colors of the walls, feel the textured fabric of the seat supporting you, smell the rich fragrance of the air you're breathing. You are immersed in a sea of energy manifest in physical form, and that manifest destiny is a direct projection of a mind. Who's mind, your mind.
Many of us go through our lives as if we are only spectators in the stadium cheap seats watching our days unfold, myopically using binoculars and other apparatus to enhance hearing, seeing and feeling your own life's experiences; from a distance.
Why? Did you not know that you are the owner?
In this analogy of your life's reality, you own the team, the stadium, the condiments, the seats, the administrative and service employee positions, and the grounds surrounding everything; so why aren't you sitting behind home plate, or in the dugout. Chopping it up with artful league banter, and giving high-fives with the players, a quick head-nod to the umpires giving you the look, calling the shots and making the big decisions from the owner's sky box. Yet many of us resist the responsibilities of any team ownership/management, and even more so, absolve to not assume ownership/management of our own personal lives.
I know inspired individuals who've stepped on to the 'Field of Dreams' in they're own lives, and quietly spoke the lines from the Kevin Costner movie bearing the same title; and in that moment lived, "If I build it, they will come." Now, they've come to celebrate life as LIVED OUT LOUD. Imagine, up front and in glorious high definition JumboTron™ massive screen television; the ultimate 'Reality TV' production. Rave reviews, paparazzi interest and attention, plus all the perk swag bag red carpet experiences lived magically everyday. Want to know how they did it? How they do it, everyday?

Consider the lyrics to Alanis Morissette"s 'You Learn' as we negotiate your life.

Do you know about "The Attitude of Gratitude" for "Parking Angel Faith?"
Consider the lyrics to Alanis Morissette"s 'You Learn' as we negotiate your life.
I, recommend getting your heart trampled on to anyone, yeah
I, recommend walking around naked in your living room, yeah
Swallow it down (what a jagged little pill)
It feels so good (swimming in your stomach)
Wait until the dust settles
[Chorus]
You live you learn, you love you learn
You cry you learn, you lose you learn
You bleed you learn, you scream you learn
I, recommend biting off more than you can chew to anyone
I certainly do
I, recommend sticking your foot in your mouth at any time
Feel free
Throw it down (the caution blocks you from the wind)
Hold it up (to the rays)
You wait and see when the smoke clears
[Chorus]
I, I, oh, oh
Wear it out (the way a three-year-old would do)
Melt it down (you're gonna have to eventually, anyway)
The fire trucks are coming up around the bend
[Chorus]
You grieve you learn, you choke you learn
You laugh you learn, you choose you learn
You pray you learn, you ask you learn
You live you learn
News flash: There is no bad news... there is only news. Bad and/or good is just our relative subjective opinion. Yes, the news of things can and will affect us emotionally... and this too shall pass. One of my favorite phrases in the King James Bible states, "And it came to pass..." Love the fact that the Bible did not say, 'And it came to stay...' Things happen, yes they do; give thanks, brush yourself off, and move on.
The 'Attitude of Gratitude' pinions on this single posit, 'You Live, You Learn.' Attitude is to You Live, as Gratitude is to You Learn.
Examine the six major areas of life: home, health, relationship, money, career and happiness. Remember the opening words to this article? Go ahead, check it out... I'll wait here until you re-read it.
Now, consider doing same exercise above with the these six key areas (home, health, relationship, money, career and happiness), also. Go ahead, check it out... I'll wait here again while you review within your mind.
You are immersed in a sea of energy manifest in physical form, and that manifest destiny is a direct projection of a mind. Who's mind, your mind.
Basically, there is absolutely no area of your life that you did not personally and painstakingly create. Which means you can change it, but how? Gratitude.
“To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven.”
Art History Professor, Theologian, Poet
“When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.”
Singer, Songwriter, Poet
“To live a life fulfilled reflect on the things you have with gratitude.”Jaren L. Davis
“My riches consist not in the extent of my possessions, but in the fewness of my wants.”
Pastor, Writer
“Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.”
Philosopher, Poet, Critic
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity...Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
The 'Attitude of Gratitude' pinions on this single posit, 'You Live, You Learn.' Attitude is to You Live, as Gratitude is to You Learn. Seems so simple, and yet we ignore the obvious actions, which are as easy as just saying THANK YOU.
Gratitude Gravitates Gain. Guarantied.
You will experience gains in every area of your life.
Next... Parking Angel Faith.
To be continued
"What if I fall?' Kids, just get back up!
One thing I've considered while standing, on a platform over 60 feet in the air, without guard rails of any kind, was... "What if I fall?'
Life lessons learned by gently observing our children, can save you precious time off the learning curves of your own life's dilemma process.
The stunning views of the vast Frost Valley YMCA Camp site jolts me back to the here and now, in full realization of my situation's gravity.
High upon a moment's whimsy, seeking only the surety of safety, the clarity of consciousness, the anticipated terror of falling down a three hundred foot zip line; swoosh, new heights or thud new depths.
New heights.
Children climb with impunity, the greatest of ease. New challenges seem common-place to progeny.
I think it's their closeness to to the ground, physically. Adults have further to fall, and once fallen, further heights to climb towards accomplishing serendipitous equilibrium.
Kids just get back up.
OK, maybe there's a tear, or even two but never more tears than the effort to find comfy hugs, and/or consoling love talks require. And then, they're off, again.
Highlights.
So, here I am, off the platform and streaming down towards Earth. Flying along, wind in face, clutching for dear life.
OK, so maybe I don't know exactly where I going, maybe the pace is a bit quick. But, oh what fun!
The whole reflective experience felt a lot like life, and the trying of new things:
New baby
New marital relationship
New finance
New job
New life.
New.
Just simply adding 'new' as an adjective additive creates awesome stress in experiencing life's precarious concepts and multi-tasking situations.
So, now I work to practice the life-lesson my children teach me everyday:
1. Don't hesitate, jump off and/or in.
2. If you fall down... just get back up. Shed a tear, get some help, and maybe even a hug. Then...
3. Go again.
The more you practice this form of play, the more you'll play at this form of practice, and wondrous accomplishment shall soon follow.
Let me know how it all works out, and if this post article has helped.

Editor's Note: Enjoy this guest post from NYC Dads Group member and one of the trophy husbands featured on Nightline, Gregory Jobson-Larkin, as he shares the lengths he goes to get his child to n*$.
In this PC explicative, touch-screen driven, neo multi-lingual urban communicative iGeneration we now thrive in; we parent-persons have all dropped a few three lettered "N" bomb directed specifically at our toddler-aged children from time to time.
Haven't you? Ok, if not the three lettered "N" word, definitely you've used the three lettered "E" bomb.
In Twilight Zone black and white, "picture this," an all too familiar scene:
A clear pigment light fixture, precariously dangles amid a lightly smoke-filled atmosphere; an ignored smoke alarm, blares in the innocuous background; the room, strategically equipped with stainless steel technology upon granite-top surfaces, sets an ominous tone. A child occupant, sitting in a toddler-chair, glares in defiance and trepidation awaiting the plot-twist horror of YOU as "The Interrogator." Wooden spoon grasped tightly in hand, gesturing the terms of your captive child's capitulation you say, "We have ways of making you "Eat"... so, I think it's "Nap" time!
"
It's all too surreal, one can almost hear the orchestral punctuation, in 3D surround sound, of course.
Who hasn't leveraged the weight of the dreaded three-lettered "N" word, "Nap", in lieu of securing toddler obedience? Confess, own it Yo!
You "Nap Nazi," using the secret police coercion technique of the: "If/Then" interrogative method. Amnesia? Maybe this will jog your memory: "If you Nap now. we'll have even more fun later, ok?" This is usually said to a "fat chance" stone-faced, single-minded and determined mini-mind. Face it, children at any age are sweet, but for the record, they can be tough cookies.
Julien, our 19-month old son 'high fives' passers-bys, dogs, cats and other stable creatures on his red carpet, velvet roped stroller ride through bustling Manhattan street life while listening to iPhone'd Luciano Pavarotti serenades, and dealing with a flirtatious adoring public. Wow, what a life?
In my dreamworld, Julien naps undisturbed from 11am to 12:30pm, and then again from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, of which these times would vary based on:
(A) Level of physical activity, such as running through the park or just observing park nature's-, flora, fauna and the odd, dirty left-behind candy wrapper;
(B) intensity of external stimuli, such as new playmates, pokey-fingered parents, and their unsolicited curious interactions; and
(C) Drowsiness before or after feeding times, frankly I don't know which one is worse. Either way, it's game over for me.
In the dreamy conclusion of my make believe world, he gets his nap on; observing it religiously, the necessity thereof for such. He quietly demands "pee pee" relief and then relieves an ample breast full of milk prior to his sweet retirement. With drink-of-choice in hand, Julien falls asleep; ahhh what a dream-life for me!
However in reality, intense kicking and screaming comes to mind regarding the subject of "Nap Time," and I possess no lactation capabilities in these memoirs.
So, I've observed the following interesting phenomena that Julien exhibits, possibly you too may recognize them:
1. Sublime Determined Ignorance: "I'll call you whatever you want, all day long, if you don't make me take a Nap!"
2. Unconventional Collaboration: "I'll do what you want for a sugary snack, yes; maybe even two sugary snacks.."
3. Staged Rage: "Are you watching, are we rolling film? Ok, action! And the Best Tantrum Award goes to.... wait for it... Me!"
4. The Negotiator: "No, don't want Teddy; no, don't want blanket; no, stop patting my tush; I don't want lap time; no, no, no!"
5. A Made-Up Mind: "I'll just lay here, but I won't go to... s-l-e-e-p."
Shush, the baby's finally s-l-e-e-p-i-n-g; night night; it's only 1:00pm in the afternoon, and you two have the whole rest of the day ahead.
Sweet dreams, and get your "Nap" on, parent-people!
